The workspace fit guide

A desk accessory should fit the desk you have, not just the photograph you liked. Use a tape measure and a sheet of paper to map the space before you order.

1. Start with usable desk depth.

Measure from the usable back edge to the front edge. Subtract space occupied by a monitor base, cable bend or wall clearance. Mark out the listed footprint of the stand or riser on paper, then place it on the desk to see how much surface remains.

2. Reserve room for your hands.

Put your keyboard and mouse where you actually use them. Measure the space they occupy and leave room to move the mouse. A laptop on an angled stand may call for a separate keyboard. A converter has its own keyboard tray, so check the whole arrangement rather than the upper surface alone.

Equipment Measure before choosing
Laptop stand Platform or base footprint, device width and depth, and space for a keyboard
Monitor riser Monitor base, shelf width and depth, plus needed storage clearance
Desk mat Keyboard-and-mouse area, desk width and front-edge position
Desk or converter Overall space, supporting surface, moving parts and access to drawers or trays

3. Fit a sleeve to the device body.

Screen size describes the diagonal of a display. It does not describe the laptop body. Measure width, depth and thickness with any fitted protective shell in place. Compare all three measurements with the listed usable interior size, allowing room for the opening and seams. Exterior dimensions include the sleeve material and cannot be treated as interior space.

Where a product uses a nominal device size class, treat that label as a starting point rather than a fit guarantee. Contact us with the device measurements and the item you are considering if you need help checking a specific pairing.

4. Plan the storage step.

Decide where the equipment goes after work. A folding support should fit the drawer or bag you intend to use. A fixed shelf stays on the desk. A rolling table also needs floor space around its base. Measure the route through the room if you plan to move it.

5. Choose the material for the way you work.

Aluminum offers a crisp, rigid structure for stands and shelves. Woven fabric cases add pockets and carry options. Cowhide and imitation leather have different surface textures and care needs. Pick the construction first, then the finish.
